Life in a state of frenzy: the pulse uncontrolled. The city streets are getting narrower, the walls of your room are getting closer. Sleepwalking into acceleration. Your veins pound, you feel your heartbeat in your throat - don't think, how will you act? - Fight! Dance on the volcano: crises create creative souls. The pupils dilated, hands trembling. Our world, an arena: Protest becomes excessive euphoria. Flight! Danger of collapse. Are we the creators of the crisis? Hit the gas. All roads lead to a dead end, the void. You hear screams, could be yours. Freeze! Paralysis. The world turns, we don't. Buildings collapse. You catch your breath. What now?
The foundation on which we stand is crumbling, and the crises we stumble into are very much present in architecture as well as spatial and urban planning. Everything that has been pushed aside so far will sooner or later fall back on us. Disaster hovers over us. The state we get into is a permanent reaction, a necessary parrying of crises - fast, intuitive, electrified. This mode enables us to achieve maximum performance: unexpected energies are released, our everyday abilities are increased in a state of emergency.
Are we able to direct the tension into productive channels in order to counteract the destruction of social and ecological realities? Will we manage to break new ground in planning processes? Do we act alone or together under stress? How can creative working methods be maintained in crisis mode? What does a constant state of emergency mean for architecture and spatial and urban planning? What are the aesthetic and formal consequences? Can we grow beyond ourselves and draw new energies?
